A trademark search is the critical first step in China's trademark registration process. Before you invest in branding, marketing, or filing fees, you need to know whether your proposed mark — or a confusingly similar one — already exists in the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) database.

China operates under a first-to-file system, meaning whoever registers first owns the rights, regardless of who used the mark first. A quick preliminary search helps you spot obvious conflicts early and avoid costly rejections.

What Our Search Tool Does

Our China Trademark Search Engine connects directly to the official CNIPA database to help you:

• Check identical trademarks already registered for products or services similar to yours

• Search by Nice Classification — China's system uses 45 international classes (34 for goods, 11 for services) with additional subclass layers unique to China

• Run quick preliminary checks across multiple search modes: English, Chinese characters, Pinyin, numerals, acronyms, or graphic marks

 

Important Limitations & Disclaimers

A preliminary search does not guarantee registration approval. It only reveals obvious conflicts with identical or highly similar marks. The search cannot assess:

• Phonetic or conceptual similarities that may still cause confusion

• Cross-class conflicts under China's unique subclass rules

• The inherent distinctiveness of your mark

Data Freshness: If the status field shows "Not updated yet" or "No result," the data may not reflect the latest official records. The CNIPA database is typically updated on a monthly basis, and there may be a 1–2 month lag for newly filed applications.

⚠️ Blind Period Disclaimer: Please be aware that China's trademark system has a 6-month blind period. Trademark applications filed within the last 6 months may not yet appear in the CNIPA public database, even though they have been officially filed and may create conflicts. Our search tool only displays data that has been published by CNIPA. We cannot detect applications still within this blind period.
